DIY Ice Candles

DIY Ice Candles

Growing up my mom did a lot of projects with us to keep us busy; science projects, art projects, you name it. One of the projects I remember doing as a kid was ice candles. I remember it was so amazing to see how the candles would come out because they were all so different and unique. The candle wax would harden around the ice and then the ice would just melt away.

These DIY ice candles always stuck with me, so I decided to make some again. Ice candles can be the perfect gift for friends and loved ones. It’s a simple DIY and none of them turn out the same, you’ll always get a different outcome, which makes it fun too.

Making candles has become my new passion project. I’ve recently had a whole conversation with my friends and how bad inhaling candles can be because of all the chemicals that are put in them. This was VERY hard to hear, because I LOVE candles, so I thought, “why don’t I just make my own?”

I did these DIY ice candles using (3) different colors and (3) different sized cartons, so each one came out differntly.

SUPPLIES:

How to Steps:

  1. Cut the carton in half, and make a hole at the bottom of it.

  2. Grab the wick and put it through the hole, add a glue dot to the bottom where the wick comes out of the hole, so that the wax and ice don’t seep through the bottom hole.

  3. Make sure the wick is long enough to go past the top of the carton and you’re going to take a pencil and wrap the wick end around the pencil. The pencil will rest on top of the carton. This helps keep the wick straight and in place.

  4. Melt the wax in your Candle Pouring Pot, add the color dye of your choice and mix for a few minutes. Then add in the essential oil (if you’d like to add).

  5. While the wax is melting and almost ready to be poured in, grab the ice cubes and place them in the carton.

  6. Take the melted wax and pour it into the carton.

  7. Let it cool for 2 hours and then slowly start to peel off the carton.

  8. Once the carton is completely off, flip the candle over so that the bottom is now your top.

  9. Wah-lah, you’ve got your ice candle!
